Henning Banthien is Secretary General of the Plattform Industrie 4.0. He is expert in the areas of Industry 4.0, Sustainability, science communication and governance. At the same time, Henning Banthien, who studied Philosophy and Geography (Environmental Science) in Heidelberg (Germany) and Baton Rouge (USA) is managing director of ifok and Senior Vice President at Cadmus. Henning is chairman of the Committee on Education and Science of the Verein Berliner Kaufleute und Industrieller (VBKI, Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists), Member of the Executive Board of the Foundation Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as well as Member of the Advisory Board for the State of Berlin for Digitization in Schools. Previously Henning was also a member of the Association of German Engineers’ (VDI) Advisory Board on Technology and Society, a member of the VDI’s Committee on Innovation Networks and of the European Commission’s High Level Expert Groups on “Regional Foresight” and the “Future Role of Key Research Actors”. In the course of his professional career Henning has been responsible for the development and implementation of sustainability strategies in both business and politics. Building on his international experience in think tanks and companies he leads on issues of digital transformation, science communication, sustainability and innovation. Henning also lectures and gives courses on these issues, both in Germany and beyond, including, for example, as a Guest Lecturer at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin.
