William Floyd was appointed executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) in May of 2023 after serving as the agency’s chief of staff since June 2022. In his role, Floyd is a member of the governor’s cabinet and chair of the Coordinating Council for Workforce Development (CCWD).

Floyd’s 35 years of leadership and experience helping employers of all sizes and industries are assets that bolster the agency’s efforts to match job seekers and employers, navigate data and statistics related to employment and workforce, and provide a temporary financial bridge for individuals and families experiencing unemployment.

Floyd is a Certified Labor and Employment Law Specialist and the former Chairperson of the South Carolina Labor and Employment Law Section. For 17 years, he was a Member of the Nexsen Pruet law firm and a leader in its Labor and Employment Practice Group. Prior to joining Nexsen Pruet, Floyd was a partner at Ogletree Deakins, a national labor law firm, during which he worked extensively throughout the region and country as he assisted a variety of employers with labor law issues.
